ISLAMABAD: The lunar moon for Ramazan was not sighted on Friday and the first day of the fasting month will be on Sunday.
The announcement was made by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Munibur Rehman after chairing a meeting in Islamabad late on Friday.
Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Office had predicted there would be a minimal chance of sighting of the moon on May 26 (Friday) in Pakistan.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs had urged private committees and media to avoid sharing reports related to moon sighting prior to the announcement made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court announced on Thursday that Saturday, May 27, will be the first day of Ramzan, Al Arabiya English reported on Thursday.
“On Thursday, Saudi was not able to sight Ramzan’s crescent,” the website reported. “It is expected that Ramzan will start on Saturday.”
According to Al Jazeera, the holy month of R amzan will begin on the eve of Friday, May 26 or Saturday, May 27 for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon and Ghana.
