LAHORE: More than 67 percent of the civil work on Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project has been completed, said Steering Committee for the Project Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassan on Wednesday during a weekly meeting to review progress on the project.
It was told that the bridge on Ring Road near Quaid-e-Azam Interchange for elevated viaduct for the train had also been constructed, while work on package-I from Dera Gujjaran on Grand Trunk Road to Chauburji had also been completed up to 82 percent.
Similarly, work on package-II from Choburji to Ali Town has been completed up to 50 percent,” the meeting heard.
Moreover, it was told that precast transoms and U-tubs girders required for construction of elevated train have been imported and precast activity for transoms have been started.
The project chairman told the meeting that June 15 had been set the deadline for completing construction work on four stations, Chauburji, Gulshan Ravi, Samanabad, while the work on remaining nine stations will be completed until July 15.
Khawaja Ahmad Hassan directed officials concerned to gear up the construction activity and deploy more manpower to expedite work on the OLMT.
He stressed the need to adopt safety measures during execution of work on the project and said that areas where work was in progress should be barricaded to avoid collision of vehicles. “Banks men should be deployed to facilitate vehicular traffic, while sufficient lighting arrangements should be made during night,” he directed.
He said that staff must be trained enough to operate firefighting equipment. “Flammable material should be handled carefully and stored in designated places separately from ignition sources.”
He also called upon all the departments concerned as well as the contractors for getting their staff trained by the Rescue 1122.
Lahore Mayor Colonel (r) Mubashir Javed, Deputy Mayor Ijaz Hafeez, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Chief Engineer Asrar Saeed, Punjab Mass Transit Authority General Manager (GM) Syed Ozair Shah, National Engineering Service (NESPAK) General Manager (GM) Salman Hafeez, Traffic Engineering Planning Authority (TEPA) Chief Engineer Saifur Rehman attended the meeting.
Senior officials of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), traffic police, Pakistan Railways, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence and Chinese engineers were also present.
