SUKKUR: Skewed electricity poles and hanging high tension wires in different localities of Sukkur and Rohri are posing threat to passersby.
Despite many cases of electrocution every year, Sukkur Electric Power Company has been seemed least bothered with addressing problems.
Poor condition of poles and power lines in Qureshi Goth, Micro Colony Miani Road, Shamshabad, Achar Galee, Shah Khalid Colony are becoming life threatening day by day. In recent past incidents more than 16 buffaloes were electrocuted when live high tension wires were fallen in Indus River.
Two months back Imran Ansari aged 12 while playing on roof lost life after falling live wires on him.
In recent months, at least twelve persons, including a girl and a man have been electrocuted in separate incidents of high-voltage wires falling related incidents.
Citizens have blamed Sukkur Electric Power Company for its negligence and failure to implement safety protocols.
Many of the poles in Piryaloi Sub Division Sepco Khairpur Division are also tilted. The situation of Bay-4 feeder which initiated from Therhi City to village Mola Bux (Kangani) is not different from others. Thus, area people remain at risk especially during rain or storm.
Citizens have asked higher authorities to take notice of the negligence and remove SEPCO’s negligent officials.
SEPCO spokesperson, Akhtiar Soomro maintained that all safety protocols were being followed. Haji Abdul Mateen, leader of local traders claimed that they had informed SEPCO of leaning electricity poles and loose and naked live wires, but officials told us that they were not in position to change old wires and poles as they had insufficient funds to carry out proper maintenance.
