ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Kamran Micheal said that the Ministry of Human Rights and Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) will consider entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the provision of rights for the overseas Pakistanis on Friday.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Chairman OPF Board of Governors Barrister Amjad Malik at the Ministry of Human Rights. Special Assistant to PM for Law and Justice Zafarullah Khan, Barrister-at-Law was also present on the occasion.
Kamran highlighted that “The ministry is introducing a mobile rescue mobile application. Considering the valuable and considerate ambulance service by OPF the Minister offered to provide 10 to 12 ambulances for transport of dead bodies.”
Furthermore he highlighted the initiation of federal and provincial task forces for Human Rights after eighteenth constitutional amendment. The legal aspects of encroachment on overseas Pakistanis properties were also discussed in detail.
The chairman informed the Minister and Special Assistant about the progress of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation and its number of new initiatives for welfare of expatriates and their dependents including provision of financial assistance of Rs 800 million under its social welfare program, provision of ambulance service for 672 dead bodies transport in current year, launching of twenty four hours toll free helpline, provision of financial assistance in case of death or disability within one month.
Moreover, the chairman highlighted that the overall governing board of OPF has met eight times this year to review progress and provide timely strategic direction. The chairman also lauded the dead body air travel which is provided free of cost by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for overseas Pakistani’s.
Kamran was invited by the chairman to attend the Overseas Pakistani convention on December 27, 2017 at Islamabad. The chairman OPF will present a paper on human rights and Overseas Pakistanis in the human rights conference which is scheduled for 3rd week of November 2017 in Islamabad.
The minister Human Rights and chairman OPF will also make a monitoring and information gathering visit airport to meet Pakistani’s living overseas to gather first-hand information about their issues and problems for provision of effective services.
Meanwhile, Barrister Amjad Malik welcomed Minister of State for Water and Power, Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali (MNA) at the HQ. The meeting was also attended by Managing Director of the OPF Habib ur Rehman Gilani.
The chairman informed the Minister about the progress of OPF. He also highlighted the creation of eight airport desks for the facilitation of overseas Pakistanis. The Chairman also discussed the water and power issues faced by OPF housing scheme of the OPF.
The minister assured provision of water and power for the housing scheme. Further, the minister appreciated the services of the OPF team under the leadership of the chairman barrister Amjad and hoped that OPF will continue to provide efficient services to 8 million overseas Pakistanis. He assured his full support to OPF.
