BAHAWALPUR: As many as 4,058 laptops were distributed among students hailing from different areas at a ceremony held at the Islamia University, Bahawalpur, on Friday.
Initially, journalists from both print and electronic media boycotted the ceremony citing rude behaviour of Islami University Vice Chancellor Dr Qaiser Mushtaq. However, they ended their boycott and joined the ceremony after assurances by MNA Ali Hassan Gillani and the district administration officials. Minister for Punjab Literacy and Non Formal Basic Education Dr Farrukh Javed attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Punjab government had undertaken a comprehensive and sustainable drive to provide 115,000 laptops to talented and eligible students through the Higher Education Department with a total outlay of Rs 7 billion.
