KARACHI: An Accountability Court on Saturday sentenced a former Registrar for corruption in leasing of shops in Saddar Cooperative Market to prison for 21 years and imposed a fine of over Rs 110 millions. The National Accountability Bureau had filed a reference against former Registrar Hajjan Shah and other co-accused for misuse of powers and authority in leasing of shops in Saddar Cooperative Market. NAB had accused Hajjan Shah, Shakeel Ahmed and others causing loss of millions of rupees by misusing their powers and authority in lease of the shops. They were also charged of committing corruption of millions of rupees. As NAB prosecutor proved the charges against the accused during hearing, the judge of the accountability court sentenced Shah to 21 years in prison. The court also imposed a fine of Rs110 million on the convict. The court also sentenced Shakil Ahmed to prison for three years and imposed a fine of Rs3 hundred thousand on him.
