LAHORE: Former PM Nawaz Sharif on Friday chaired an advisory session of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to discuss various issues, including election-related activities.
The meeting was attended by top leadership of the party, including Shahbaz Sharif, Saad Rafique, Pervaiz Rasheed, Maryam Nawaz, Rana Iqbal and others.
The meeting decided to organise a public gathering on November 20 in Abbottabad. Nawaz directed the PML-N leadership and workers to start preparations for the rally. The meeting also decided to hold series of election related activities in different districts of Punjab from next month.
After Abbottabad, Nawaz is expected to address another rally in Sheikhupura. Moreover, the PML-N top leadership has given a green light to PML-N Multan president Bilal Butt to start making arrangements for a rally in Multan. The meeting assigned responsibilities to the Sheikhupura and Multan PML-N presidents to make preparations for successful public rallies in their cities. The party leaders also deliberated over issues such as constitutional amendments and delimitation issues.
Earlier, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif held a significant meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif at his Jati Umra residence in Lahore on Friday.
During the meeting, Sharif brothers categorically ruled out the possibility of early elections. They also decided to further accelerate their contacts with all political opponents.
The Punjab CM also held a separate meeting with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Both discussed matters of mutual interest and political situation of the country. They also excluded the likelihood of early elections. Shehbaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman agreed to continue a positive role for the stability of democracy.
Speaking on the occasion, the Punjab CM slammed those calling for early elections. “Those who cannot do anything productive in their own province are now demanding to conduct early elections. The country is well aware of their performance. Pakistan has been intentionally damaged through lies and baseless allegations. We all have to work together for the development of the country.”
