GUJRANWALA: Sale of unhygienic food is on the rise in the city.
More and more sellers are selling altered and substandard products while human beings are suffering from all kinds of ill effects and diseases.
It was observed that despite a ban, milkmen were selling substandard milk in blue containers causing stomach diseases among the consumers. They are also allegedly selling cream-added milk in blue containers which is a sheer violation of the directives of the government. Some insiders told this reporter that mixing of water, chalk and an herb with milk to increase its quantity and thickness continued. Though adding water to milk was not dangerous but mixing contaminated water with it could lead to a number of stomach- related problems in addition to causing hepatitis A, B and C. The citizens have lodged protests against the milkmen but the authorities concerned are looking at the whole affair as a silent spectator. Citizens said although the production and sale of unhealthy milk is a heinous crime but no action has been carried out by the concerned authorities including the Food Authority to control this practice. They demanded that the elements involved in this evil business should be rooted out and will not only be imposed fine but they should also be sent behind the bars.
Meanwhile, citizens were deprived of cash, gold ornaments, vehicles, goats and other valuables in 25 robbery and theft incidents here on Thursday. In Wahndo two armed men intercepted Husnain and deprived him of Rs 120 thousand, three cell phones on gun point, in Sadar Gujranwala police station limit robbers looted Rs 50 thousand and four goats from Salman while Shamim was also deprived of Rs 58 thousands, gold ornaments and two cell phones in this area, in Tatleywali four armed men snatched four goats worth of 130 thousand from Munir, at KotLadha bandits looted Rs 83 thousand and four cell phones from Ikram and Asif, in Dhulley area armed men entered in the shop of Fayyaz and snatched Rs 47 thousand, in Model Town area dacoits looted Rs 35 thousand and two cell phones from Shafqat, in Sadar Wazirabad police station limit armed men snatched Rs 60 thousand, three cell phones and gold chain from Habib, in Tatlewali armed men took away five goats from Sharif, in Sadar Gujranwala area dacoits snatched Rs.15 thousands, applied for motorcycle and two cell phones from Muneeb, at Ahmed Nagar armed men looted four goats from Ansar, Shani was deprived of Rs.22 thousands, gold ornaments and cell phones by armed men, at Aroop bandits looted Rs 100 thousand, two goats and two cell phones from Mansha, in city Kamoki area armed men snatched Rs. 55 thousands, three cell phones from Moeen, in Sadar Wazirabad police station limit armed men looted Rs.110 thousands and two cell phones from Shakeeb, in Saddar Gujranwala area swindlers took away five goats from Khuram, at Aroop Rashid was deprived of Rs 25 thousand, two cell phones from Rashid, in Ali Pur Chatha dacoits took away Rs 80 thousand, two cell phones and three goats from Nawaz, in theft incidents unknown thieves swept the houses of Yousaf, Jehangir, Asghar and Asif while motorcycles of Mukarram and Iqbal were stolen from different places.
Separately, a female thief was held red handed while stealing a cell phone at district headquarters hospital.
A beggar namely Nanhi entered a private room of DHQ Hospital and tried to pick the cell phone of a citizen. Meanwhile a visitor witnessed this and caught the beggar. Later she was handed over to Civil Lines Police.
Meanwhile, Model Town police in result of a raid have recovered 100 liter liquor from Nomania Road. On a tip, SHO Gohar Abbas Bhatti along with team raided a house located at Nomania road and recovered 100 liter wine while accused namely Ramzan succeeded to escape from the scene.
