DADU: The retail prices of onion, tomato and garlic increased by 50 percent in Dadu vegetable market ahead of Eidul Azha.
According to Daily Times survey retail prices of these vegetables and other daily consumers’ vegetables were soared sub-division Johi, Mehar, KN Shah and other parts of Dadu but district administrator has been failed to provide relief to consumers.
A vegetable buyer Amjad Shaikh said that for past three days he had bought vegetables on normal prices but as Eid was approaching nearer, tomato, onion and garlic were being sold at Rs 120-150 per kilogramme in Dadu vegetable market. Earlier these vegetables were available at Rs 40 per kg on retail.
Market committee chairman and administrator were not providing daily base retail price list to middlemen of vegetable market in order to get price of their own.
The prices of common vegetables including ridged gourd, cauliflower, eggplant, potato, green peas, capsicum and coriander have also been increased. Like Dadu city vegetable market others markets of Johi, KN Shah and Mehar Town were hot but district authorities have been reluctant to get control of prices. The consumer’s society demanded of concerned department high ups of Sindh administration to take notice of the situation Akthair Ahmed Charan, a vegetable seller in Dadu vegetable market accused Market Committee chairman and district administrator for retail price hike.
He said that if they bought tomato per kg 100 rupee from vegetable market, how they could sell it at Rs 60 per kg.
Deputy Commissioner Dadu has not formed any price committee to resolve the problem. Assistant Commissioner Dadu Suleman Memon while rejecting allegation of middlemen said that in main market of Dadu, every middleman takes free ride on price.
Memon said that they have not received any complaint against market middlemen and if they were found guilty they would be punished.
Deputy Commissioner Dadu Raja Shah Zaman Kahhro told Daily times that he has directed Assistant Commissioners and Mukthairkars Dadu to conduct raid in markets and provide relief to public.
